1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

Previously something of a dark horse in the collector car world, the VW Karmann Ghia has been embraced more widely in recent years, little wonder given its gorgeous Italian styling, bulletproof VW Beetle power and sunny disposition. Offered as both a coupe and convertible, the Karmann Ghia makes for an enjoyable entry into the classic car world. On offer here is the rarer convertible body style of Volkswagen’s sports car. This amazing example boasts an incredibly solid body and underside and looks great in its bright red paint accented by the various chrome components such as the front air inlets, the wheel covers and of course the bumpers. Also, this being a 1969 means it has the smaller and more elegant turn signals compared to later versions. Inside, the headliner, dash, door panels and upholstery are all in excellent shape. The one notable flaw is the driver’s seat bottom is flattened somewhat, so we are having that seat rebuilt (new foam/springs) to bring it back in line with the rest of the car's impressive condition. Notably, the Karmann Ghia has a small rear seat, allowing two more to share in the open-air fun (provided they are little kids or little adults). The 1.6-liter (1600) flat four won’t exactly pin you to the seat, but it runs great and makes the right sounds. This car is proof that you don’t always need a lot of power to have a lot of fun. With its 4-speed stick and manual steering the Karmann Ghia provides plenty of fun engagement and is easy to wheel around, thanks to its light weight and rear-engine architecture.
