Description

Although the third-generation Corvette (aka the “C3”) was produced from 1968 through 1982, few versions hold as much sway among Corvette enthusiasts as the earlier ones. This was, after all, when the C3’s performance was at its peak. Some of the most desirable early C3s are the 454-powered cars. Whether it be an LS5 or ultra-rare LS6, either of those three characters indicated that nothing less than a big block beast with a massive torque curve resided under the Corvette’s long hood. Here we have a 1971 Corvette featuring the optional LS5 454. Rated at 365 horsepower and a stout 460 pound-feet of torque, this powerhouse had no problem pinning the Corvette’s occupants to the seats when the whip is cracked. Coupled with a 4-speed stick, the fun factor is increased even further. This car has that gearbox, which sends the power to a 3:36 rear end, along with a few other desirable options including A/C. A folder full of receipts shows meticulous maintenance which includes new brakes and suspension components as well as a rebuilt transmission and restored interior with new seat foams as well as seat covers and door panels. Originally finished in War Bonnet Yellow paint, this car now wears a respray in Classic White that still gleams. The body panels fit well and the chrome bumpers and various other bright trim pieces (including the brushed aluminum rocker panels) look great as well. The Rally wheels are likewise in nice condition and wear Firestone radials. Overall, the Corvette presents as a very nice driver-quality car. Inside, the correctly recovered vinyl seats are supple with firm cushions and no scuffs or tears. The door panels, dash and carpeting are likewise in fine shape while an aftermarket center console armrest adds a bit of comfort. The factory-issued AM/FM stereo radio still resides in the center stack and the A/C blows ice-cold, thanks to a brand-new compressor. The car also comes with the covers for the T tops. The original, numbers-matching engine and transmission are also still in the car. Although we can’t say for certain, we believe the 78,567 miles showing on the odometer to be the actual mileage given the engine’s easy starting and the car's smooth, strong-running nature. Power steering and power disc brakes add to the ease of piloting this spirited Corvette. Run through the gears as you unravel a curvy back road and you’ll understand why people love these classic C3s; it’s hard to beat the fun per dollar factor. Financing is offered through our approved lender, interesting trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
