The K Code 289/271hp engine was developed by Ford in the early
60s and offered first as an option on the late 63 and 64 Ford
Fairlane. In 64 and 65, the Hi-Po engine became a Mustang
production option. The HI-Po was offered as a production
option in 66 and ended in 67 because of the potential racing
applications for the 271 Hi-Po engine and to limit liability,
Ford warranted the Hi-Po for 90 days or 4,000 miles. The
standard warrant was 12 months or 12,000 miles. This
genuine K-Code Mustang was born at Ford's Metuchen, NJ assembly
plant, built Oct. 23, 1965 and shipped to Chicago Il.
Purchased by someone from West Virginia, where it spent most of
it's life. Following, the second owner was from CA.
After speaking with him, he received the car which had
been restored with approx. 1,000 miles the rebuilt engine.
Bored .030 thousands over 11:00:1 compression, balanced
assembly, solid lifter, Hi-Po heads, and rebuilt by Jasper
Engineering. Also, the orig. C-4 automatic was rebuilt at
the same time. Very well documented through the previous
owners history and we have many additional receipts and info,
copy of orig. Title, orig. West Virginia license plates etc.
Factory orig. door ID tag, orig. buck tag (extremely important),
from Metuchen, NJ where they built few K-code performance units,
especially with automatic trans. (extremely rare). Owning
a true K-code Mustang is a great investment. This one is
optioned with the GT pkg., road style wheels, am radio, deluxe
Pony interior, remote driver's side mirror, FDB, flip fold seat
and 3.50 axle ratio, block casting # C5AE-6015E. This rare
example was completely restored 4-5 yrs. ago. This 66 K Code GT
Fastback has just had a complete high quality repaint Feb 1012.
Bringing this car to the next level, we refinished the roof
because of slight pippling in the
clear coat. At that time we also refinished the
both rear quarters and blended into the doors. Then...we
decided to disassemble the whole car and refinish it.
Removal of the chrome, bumpers, trim, bright work, side marker
emblems, doors, hood and fenders and readjusted all the body
lines to make sure they lined up correctly. We then
removed the engine and trans. because someone painted it black,
(only for 65 models, but not for 66). We refinished the
entire engine bay with the correct satin black finish. A
complete new engine and head lamp wire harness was installed,
complete new front nose fastener kit, belts, hoses, clamps and
stickers. All the head lamp buckets were removed as well
as the new rear tail lamp assemblies, lenses, gaskets and seals
were also ordered. New back up lights, complete new set of wheel
opening mouldings (never on the car before). While apart,
we replaced the following items, front grille assembly, fog
light housing (slightly pitted), also, the chrome on the
1/4 vent windows were slightly pitted,(replaced with new ones).
Complete new weather strip, new splash shields in the front
fenders, new fender bolts, door hinge repair kit since the doors
were off the car. A new white GT lower strip was also
ordered. The trunk, hood and door jambs have been refinished,
new sill plates. On the interior, we replaced the console
and glove box door with new wood grain kit. New interior
fastener kit, some screws, instrument cluster plastic chrome
panel, hooks, door end seals all totaling approx.
$2,607.86 just in parts. Taking several months to block,
prime and refinish this Pony, as you can see it now posses that
perfect laser straight body achieving that fresh look.
Reassembled, the car under went wet sanding and buffing.
Fresh oil change, zinc additive, new gaskets on the entire
engine, refinished factory exhaust manifolds, new vacuum hoses,
spark plug wires, thermostat, radiator cap. The results
are remarkable on this beautifully restored rare, limited
production GT K-Code Fast Back. The car comes with some
owner history, orig. Buck Tag, all the receipts of the recent
work, over and add'l $11,000 was spent. Now, highly
detailed, with complete new paint, new interior, show quality
engine bay which is correct, new chrome, bright work, stainless
& emblems. The only thing left to do are the Red Line
tires to make this 66 Fastback K-Code complete! Great
investment, #2 condition car. She's a beauty, don't miss
