1929-1960, the history of the DeSoto was founded by Walter
Chrysler, Aug. 4th, 1928 and introduced for the 1929 model year.
It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto Chrysler
wanted to enter the brand in competition with its arch rivals GM
and Studebaker Willys-Knight in the mid-class priced vehicles.
Shortly after DeSoto was introduced, Chrysler completed its
purchase of the Dodge bothers, giving the company 2 mid priced
makes. 31 yrs. later, by the time the 1961 DeSoto was
introduced in the fall of 1960, rumors were wide spread that
Chrysler was moving towards terminating the brand. Fueled
by a reduction in model offerings, for the 1960 model year, the
final decision to discontinue DeSoto was announced on Nov. 30th,
1960, just 47 days after the 1961 models were introduced. Total
production for the 61 models was 3,034 total units, 2,123 4dr
sedans and only 911 2dr hard tops. The last of the "Tail
Fin era". This DeSoto carries beautiful distinctive
body lines that flow with flair and style. This particular
car has been with the orig. owner for most of it's entire life.
Originally from Spencer Iowa, 6,072 actual miles, fully
documented with orig. window sticker and every registration
since new. The vehicle changed hands approx. 5 yrs ago.
A private collector picked it up who has been a fan of the early
Chrysler, Dodge and DeSoto cars since childhood, and has
acquired quite a collection to date. Always stored in a
climate controlled environment, this vehicle has a "B" series
wedge engine with a 361 cu. in. displacement. A 90 degree
over head calve V8 that delivers 265hp. @ barrel Stromberg
down draft carb., compression ratio 9.0L1 hydraulic valve
lifters, 12 volt system, 3 spd. automatic Torque Flite, dash
board-mounted push button. The option on this car are Bask
Group, deluxe steering wheel, roof moulding pkg., padded
instrument panel, complete Solex glass. Only 1 of 911
every built. Show quality finish re painted in 2009.
Completely orig. body panels, no rust or repairs made, beautiful
perfect orig. chrome bumpers, trim, stainless and bright work.
Mirror finish paint with perfect aligning doors, hood and rear
deck lid. Perfect orig. Soley glass, 18' long masterpiece
of a very orig. example. The untouched orig. red/blk plaid
style interior handsomely complements the classic white exterior
with no wear what so ever. Factory am radio, clock, dash
mounted rear view mirror. Nothing faded or cracked, orig.
docs in glove box. 2 broadcast sheets, no cracks in the
orig. steering wheel. The instrument cluster is brilliant
and like new. The engine bay is completely original, #'s
match motor that purrrs like a kitten. This untouched,
original time capsule is like it just rolled off the show room
in 1960. Nicely detailed, orig. intake, carb, generator,
radiator, windshield washer bag, solid inner fenders no rust or
issues under the hood. PS, PB, this car drives like a
dream! Mechanically maintained and driven only a few miles
each yr. to exercise its legs. Beautiful orig. under
carriage, complete new exhaust system, regularly maintained
brakes and fuel system. Factory under coating with no
signs of any rust in the floor pans. Inside the trunk is
clean and all original. Orig. spare, and jack. Here
is your chance to own one of the finest examples of an extremely
low mileage, well preserved car of it's time. Investment
quality and one of the last DeSotos that has less than 50% left
in existence, and 10% in this condition. Surely, its
presence makes a statement with its signature tail fins and
sleek body lines. No bones about it it, you're
riding in style, reminiscent of an era gone by. |
