There’s nothing like the raw, visceral thrill of an old-school hot rod. One of the most iconic examples has to be a ’32 Ford Hi-Boy. Whether in coupe or roadster form, these cars just have the look and the sound that make them favorites of young and old car buffs alike. Here we have a 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Roadster with a fiberglass body by Kilbourne sitting atop an original ’32 Ford frame. This ‘rod was professionally built for the owner of the local Porsche / Audi dealership. It has an amazing old school appearance with the exposed engine compartment, low-cut windshield, dropped straight front axle and Buick front drum brakes. With less than 50 miles since the build, this Ford is about as fresh as they get. In keeping with its true minimalist hot rod aesthetic, this car sports a subtle, high-quality Tacoma Tan hue that’s perfectly accented with that raked-back windshield and a set of black Ford wire wheels wearing chrome hubcaps and period-correct rubber. Chrome suspension components add a little more bling and the highly detailed undercarriage and frame also look impressive. The open cockpit of the roadster is fitted with supple leather seating, a full set of period-correct Stewart Warner gauges, a Banjo steering wheel and a Lokar shifter. Unlike many of these cars, this one has plenty of room for taller guys thanks to those well-shaped seats and generous legroom. Wearing vintage custom valve covers, the 307 2-barrel V8 runs through a Powerglide automatic and on to a narrowed Ford 9" rear end with a 3.25 final drive. Helped by the car’s light weight, that bulletproof powertrain provides plenty of performance. A Chevy Vega steering box along with a rear coil-over suspension add to the driving fun, while other feature highlights include an aluminum radiator and stainless gas tank.
