THIS TRUCK WILL BE DISPLAYED AT OWLS HEAD AUTO AUCTION: AUG. 19-21 Representing an era when a pickup truck was a practical, utilitarian vehicle, the 1935 Ford pickup still boasted its fair share of style. That year was notable for the company updating its pickup’s design with a look more closely resembling its passenger cars as both the grille and windshield were laid back slightly while the fenders were skirted for a more substantial and classy look. Also, the four-cylinder engine was dropped, meaning all the ’35 pickups sported Ford’s feisty flathead V8. Here we have a beautiful 1935 Ford pickup with its all-original metal body done in a classy gray and black two-tone paint scheme accented with a red grille insert and red wire wheels. Chrome accents abound as well, with chrome wheel caps/trim rings, front bumper, headlights, taillights, horns and hood ornament further adding to the head-turning presence of this classic pickup. The bed is lined with wood stakes while underneath the frame and floors are solid. Look closely and you’ll see very good panel fits and gaps. You might also notice that turn signals have been fitted in a tasteful manner. Inside, the thickly-grained brown vinyl headliner, seating and door panels offers the right period look. There are a couple of worthwhile upgrades, including seat belts (with shoulder belts) and a couple of auxiliary gauges that allow you to keep tabs on the flathead V8. As with the exterior, the various chrome hardware is in nice shape, and the windows roll up and down easily. Flip up the hood sides and you’ll see the flathead V8 is impressively clean. And yes, it runs as good as it looks as its starts, idles and accelerates quietly and smoothly. The electrical system was upgraded to a more powerful 12-volt system. The three-speed manual shifts without a hitch and both the steering and brakes operate smoothly as well, adding to the pleasure of cruising around in this cool rig.
