A stately pre-war Packard and a supercharged big block are two things you typically would not associate with one another. But imagine teaming the regal styling of a 1939 Packard coupe with the blistering performance of a blown Chevy 454 and the result would be the incredible car that we have on offer here. The beautiful, all steel body of this 1939 Packard One Twenty business coupe is in fantastic condition with its arrow straight panels and lustrous, high-quality black paint. A monochromatic theme is seen, with the normally chromed out grille and headlight enclosures painted black to match the rest of the car. Shaved door handles and trunk hardware as well as tear drop side-view mirrors, flush-mounted taillights and front/rear bumper delete add to the sleek look of the Packard. A set of 15-inch Torq Thrust alloy wheels wearing beefy radials round out the car’s impressive stance. Underneath, the frame and floors are rock solid. Inside, a banjo steering wheel with a leather-wrapped rim grabs your attention, as does the simple but classy leather upholstery. A pair of jump seats in back allow two smaller adults or children to come along for the ride. Various modern luxury upgrades, including power windows, a Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette audio system (okay, maybe that’s not that modern) and a “Vintage Air” heating/air conditioning system all make longer drives, particularly in hotter weather, much more enjoyable and literally no sweat. Much more than a pretty façade, this restomod Packard was meant to be driven. Under the long hood is a built 454 V8 fortified with dual quads, a 6-71 blower and appropriate upgrades, including adjustable traction bars, to handle the power. A 3-inch dual exhaust system speaks a little louder than this Packard’s original whisper-quiet system did. A built TH400 automatic with a high-performance converter and a shift kit sends the power to a 9-inch Ford rear end fitted with a highway-friendly gear ratio and on to the meaty rear tires. The previous owner stated the engine's output to be in the range of 700 horsepower. Ensuring that this pristine Packard stops and handles as well as it accelerates, the braking and suspension systems were appropriately beefed up as well. Four-wheel disc brakes as well as suspension upgrades (including a Mustang II front end, QA1 coil overs, KYB shocks, front/rear sway bars and a Panhard bar) all contribute to the great all-around driving performance of this sharp classic. With only around 16,000 miles since its restomod-ification, this graceful yet muscular classic car is ready to be enjoyed by its next fortunate owner.
