Check out a cruise night or a car show and you're bound to see some examples of the very popular "Tri-Five" (1955, 1956, 1957) Chevrolets. Signaling the end of stodgy styling and the debut of V8 power, it's no wonder these cars have legions of fans both young and old. Back then, the Bel Air was the top-of-the-line model and featured fancier exterior and interior trim, such as the sweeping aluminum accent on the body sides, as well as seats that were upholstered in cloth and vinyl versus all vinyl. Here we have an incredible 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop coupe that received a high-end restoration and has only accumulated 1,770 miles since. Look closely and you'll be impressed by the original, very straight and solid body of this example. The impressive underside, including the original floor pans, is likewise rock solid. This was a no-expenses-spared effort, which is plainly evident when you see the gorgeous, Tropical Turquoise over Inca Ivory two-tone paint and gleaming chrome, aluminum, and stainless-steel body trim. The factory tinted glass is in excellent condition. Fender skirts and wide whitewall radial tires wearing correct "spinner" style wheel covers add the perfect finishing touch. During the restoration, both the "going" and "stopping" power were substantially upgraded. A crate 350 4-barrel V8 with 270 hp is matched to a TH350 automatic transmission. A dual exhaust system provides the proper throaty but not obnoxious soundtrack while power disc brakes provide confident and smooth braking performance. Power steering and a front anti-sway bar round out the impressive chassis specs. Open the door and you'll be struck by the interior that looks like it just came out of the dealer brochure, as it is so correct and crisp. And being a Bel Air, the style, fabrics and two-tone color scheme of the upholstery add to the car’s allure. Underway, the 350 provides plenty of smooth and peppy power, while the power steering and brakes likewise operate in an effortless and smooth fashion. We recently drove the Bel Air over 100 miles and can confidently say that the car drives as well as it looks, which is really saying something once you see this car for yourself.
