Check out a cruise night or a car show and you're bound to see some examples of the very popular "Tri-Five" (1955, 1956, 1957) Chevrolets. Signaling the end of stodgy styling and the debut of V8 power, it's no wonder these cars have legions of fans both young and old. Back then, the Bel Air was the top-of-the-line model and featured fancier exterior and interior trim, such as the sweeping aluminum accent on the body sides, as well as seats that were upholstered in cloth and vinyl versus all vinyl. Here we have an incredible 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop coupe that received a high-end, two-year restoration in the 1980s that looks as if it was done recently. Look closely and you'll be impressed by the very straight and solid body of this example, while the underside is likewise rock solid and very well finished. This was a no-expenses-spared effort, which is plainly evident when you see the gorgeous, Colonial Cream over Inca Ivory two-tone, 14 coat lacquer and gleaming chrome, aluminum, and stainless-steel body trim. Also note that this car has the one-piece "smooth" frame that not all of these cars were built with. Just as impressive as the restoration is the specification of this handsome coupe, as it was ordered with no less than 27 options. Highlights of those extras include the 283 V8 with the Power Pack upgrade (4-bbl carb and dual exhaust), oil bath air cleaner, Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, 3.55:1 Positraction, the two-tone paint scheme, dual sideview mirrors, finger nail guards, gold license plate frame, locking gas cap, fender skirts, a Continental kit, spinner wheel covers, tinted glass, power seat, courtesy lights, AM radio, tissue dispenser and a vacuum ash tray. In addition to the amazing restoration and loaded with options status, the Bel Air boasts some recent (done in 2,000), resto-mod-style upgrades that include the fitment of power four-wheel-disc brakes (with drilled rotors) and tubular upper/lower A arms. After inspection by our shop, we will be replacing some worn front-end components, the rear leaf springs and the gas tank and sending unit. Inside this classic Chevy, the interior looks like it just came out of the dealer brochure, as it is so correct and crisp. And being a Bel Air, the style and colors of the upholstery add to the car’s allure. Underway, the 283 provides plenty of smooth and peppy power, while the steering and brakes likewise operate in an effortless and smooth fashion. In short, the car drives as well as it looks, which is really saying something once you check this car out in the steel for yourself. Please call Carroll Street Auto at (603) 627-5595 to schedule time to view this beautiful Bel Air close up.
