1958 Edsel Ranger

When Ford Motor Company brought out its Edsel brand for 1958; the cars were somewhat controversial due chiefly to the grille's center styling that was nicknamed the "horse collar". In contrast to that, other features were futuristic for the time such as the "Teletouch" steering wheel-mounted controls for the automatic transmission and the "space age" instrument panel with its spinning disc-style speedometer. As the brand only lasted three years (1958-1960), seeing an Edsel on the road or even at a car show nowadays is a rare sight, making them an interesting alternative to a much more common 1950s Ford or Chevy. Here we have a 1958 Edsel Ranger two-door finished in Frost White with a Green original interior. This example sports a rock-solid original body and undercarriage, while that single and still glossy respray is accented with old-school Keystone Klassic wheels. The Ranger's interior is completely original other than an upgraded audio system with Bluetooth and it features Edsel rubber floor mats, a never-used cigarette lighter (thanks to its non-smoker ownership) and that cool instrument panel with all of its gauges working. Under the hood is a peppy and bulletproof transplant -- a Ford 352 4-barrel V8 that sends its power to the 9-inch rear end via a T10 4-speed transmission. Recent maintenance includes new shocks, new front springs and new multi-leaf rear springs. Underway, the Edsel is a hoot to drive thanks to that spirited 352-4V, dual exhaust soundtrack and of course that 4-speed stick.
