Back in the 1960s, powerful full-size cars were the choice for those seeking room with vroom. And having a convertible made it all the better as you could have five or six adults enjoying the open road along with an open roof. And back then, Buick was considered just below Cadillac in the GM hierarchy, what with their flamboyant styling, plush interiors On offer here is a beautiful example of a big Buick drop-top in the form of a 1963 LeSabre convertible. Having been well cared for since it rolled out of the showroom and having been sympathetically restored as needed, this LeSabre looks and runs great. A binder detailing ownership history as well as maintenance and restoration receipts accompanies the car. The rock-solid body has straight panels, even gaps and a high-quality respray in its correct shade of Marlin Blue. The chrome and stainless-steel trim look fantastic and the white convertible top is in good condition as well. The radial white wall tires wearing correct Buick wheel covers complete the period-correct and eye-catching look. Underneath the car, the frame and floorboards are likewise solid. Inside, everything from the dash to the door panels and seats presents very well. Those seats were reupholstered in the correct colors and upholstery pattern and can comfortably accommodate six adults. Whoever ordered this car checked off a lot of options as the LeSabre has power windows, a power seat, “Speed Alert Minder” (which buzzes when you hit a selected speed) and the “Sonomatic” AM radio, which still resides in the dash. Under the broad hood is the original 401 cubic-inch “Wildcat” V8 matched to the “Turbine Drive” automatic transmission. The original air cleaner still sports the “Wildcat 410” script, which is Buick’s boast about the big V8’s 410 pound-feet of torque rating. Along with the power steering and power brakes, that powertrain makes the LeSabre a smooth performer that’s a joy to drive. Underway, there’s plenty of power when you step into it, and the big car soaks up the bumps and tracks nice and straight as it goes down the road.
