Before the mid-size muscle cars came on the scene, the full-size cars carried the torch for style and performance. Ford’s entry was the Galaxie 500 which offered a wide range of engine and luxury options. Here we have an incredible find – a 1963 Ford Galaxie that’s an all-original example with just under 19,000 original miles. We got this beauty from a collector who has a thing for early/mid-‘60s Galaxies and this amazingly solid and pristine car just has to be seen to be believed. Looking sharp in its original paint black body with white top two-tone color scheme, this Galaxie 500 is the “sedan” body style, meaning it has framed windows and a B pillar, as opposed to a coupe style which has frameless windows and no B pillar. The various chrome and stainless-steel body accents gleam as well, and a set of original "Deluxe" wheel covers and whitewall tires complete the look of this time-capsule example from the Kennedy era. We can’t think of a better interior color than red for a black (or black/white) car, and the Galaxie’s red interior is stunning in both its originality and condition. The headliner, door panels, seats, dash and carpet are all in fantastic condition. Look more closely and you’ll see that the original metal accents on the dash, as well as the markings for the heater controls and radio display are so crisp you’d swear this car was six years old, not nearly 60 years old. As you see on the original window sticker, this car was ordered with the “Thunderbird Special” 352 2-barrel V8, which sends power to the rear wheels through a column-mounted three-speed manual transmission (aka “three-on-the-tree”). Firing up easily with a twist of the key, the big Ford moves out smoothly. Step into it and it’s surprisingly peppy and sounds good as you wind it out through the gears. The manual steering and brakes also work seamlessly. This is definitely a “hop in everybody and let’s get an ice-cream” car that’ll also do you proud at the local Cars and Coffee.
