Produced for just two years, the second-generation Ford Falcon traded the previous version's rounded off, economy car styling for a much sportier, sharper-edged look. The "Futura" was the top of the Falcon line-up with its fancier exterior and interior trim. There was also the option of V8 power, first the 260 and then the 289, giving Ford's compact some pep in its step. Here we have a 1965 Ford Falcon Futura that was ordered from the factory with the 289 2-barrel V8 coupled to the optional 4-speed manual gearbox. The original window sticker shows that two other options were fitted to this car: the "courtesy light group" which included back-up, glove box and trunk lights, and the "visibility group" which included remote-controlled left sideview mirror, inside day/night mirror and windshield washers. The rock solid body has had just one quality repaint in the original and attractive "Twilight Turquoise" and it retains all its original body panels. The underside as well as the trunk are likewise in very good condition. The trunk includes a factory-style mat as well as the jack assembly and a full-size spare tire. A set of 15-inch American Racing 5-spoke wheels wearing BF Goodrich radials round out the eye appeal of the handsome Falcon. Inside, the Falcon boasts its original headliner, door/rear interior trim panels, seat upholstery and weather stripping, which are all in good to excellent shape. The instrument panel and dash were restored (as can be seen by the gleaming plastic chrome trim accents) and color-keyed reproduction seat belts were installed. A few upgrades were done as well, including a Pro-Comp tachometer, auxiliary instruments (mounted under the dash) and an AM/FM radio with Bluetooth capability and an input jack. Under the hood, the output of the original 289 2-barrel V8 has been pumped up considerably via a number of high-performance mods. Highlights include aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock polished aluminum intake, a 600 CFM Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor (with electronic choke), an MSD electronic distributor/electronic ignition system, and ceramic coated headers. A four-core aluminum radiator, a hi-po harmonic balancer and a new 2.5-inch dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers round out the powertrain upgrades. Out on the open road, the Falcon runs strong, with no rattles, clunks or creaks. It's a blast to run up through the gears, with the 289 pulling hard and sounding great while doing so. This is one fast Falcon! Included with the car are the the original window sticker (laminated), the original owners manual and a clear Maryland title.
