1966 Chevrolet Malibu

Chevrolet’s Chevelle SS blasted into 1966 sporting more aggressive styling featuring a more rakish roofline and newly standard 396 V8 power. In Canada, things were a bit different in that the 1966 Malibu SS option (called the Sports option on the option list) was essentially a trim package with bucket seats and a console but little else. Engine choices ranged from a 194 cubic-inch inline six all the way up to a 396 V8. Here we have one of those rare Canadian Malibu SSs. We sold this car 25 years ago and it has returned to our showroom, and we are once again proud to offer it for sale. This is a real-deal Canadian Malibu SS that has been given the restomod treatment. The Malibu's rock-solid and arrow-straight body sports a gorgeous high-quality respray in the factory correct Artesian Turquoise. Brilliant chrome and stainless-steel trim add to the head-turning factor. Note how the rear quarters on this Canadian SS have the correct 1965-style Malibu SS emblems. Rally wheels with redline tires further the massive curb appeal. Swing open a door and you'll see a beautiful and correct white interior with bucket seats, console and the original AM radio. There are also a couple of "Day 2" additions in the form of an old-school column-mounted tach and a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash. The original 283 V8 was replaced with something a bit more exciting, that being a GM 350 V8 crate engine with upgrades that boost output to 348 horsepower. Those upgrades include an MSD ignition and a set of ceramic-coated Hedman headers that lead to a custom dual exhaust system with "SS 409" mufflers. Note that this powerhouse only has about 13,000 miles on it as it was installed when the car had about 70,000 miles. The transmission was also seriously upgraded as the original 2-speed Powerglide was replaced with a 4-speed 700 R4 automatic with a mild shift kit and a 2,500 rpm stall converter. The power is sent to a 3.55-geared, 10-bolt Positraction rear end. Power steering and power front disc brakes, as well as chassis upgrades that include Hotchkis suspension components, boxed rear trailing arms and heavy-duty front / rear anti-sway bars all team up with that potent powertrain to make this Malibu go, stop and turn considerably better than it would have back in 1966.
