Dodge’s iconic Charger debuted back in 1966. With its fastback roofline, unique and roomy four-place interior, hide-away headlights and powerful lineup of V8 options (including the 426 Hemi) the new Charger was a sensation. On offer here is one of these rarely-seen first-year Chargers. This car was part of a classic car collection (we bought two other cars from this gentleman) and had received a high-level restoration. The end result is simply stunning and a trunk full of car show trophies (which go with the car) attests to the Charger’s impressive overall condition. Originally a Cream with Black interior car, the Charger was restored with a color change to Red metallic with Red interior. The underside and body panels are all original and rock solid and the high-quality respray, as well as the various chrome and stainless-steel trim, shine brilliantly. A set of chrome Rally wheels fitted with original-style Firestone redline tires round out the Charger’s eye-catching looks. Inside, it is beautiful from the headliner down to the carpet. The dash, door panels and other interior panels look fantastic, as does the four individual bucket seats and unique front-to-back console. The rear seats fold down as well, giving this classic car the unexpected bonus of serious cargo-carrying capacity. The first Charger was marketed as a personal luxury/performance car and as such had a lot of standard (for 1966) features such as those hidden headlights, full instrumentation, the plush seats and the front/rear console. This Charger features its original (and optional) 383 4-barrel V8 which sends its 325 spirited horses through the factory-issued 4-speed gearbox. The car has power steering and manual brakes. Although we can’t make an official claim, the 38,012 miles showing on the odometer are believable, given the impressive condition of the original body panels and powertrain. Our shop went through the car and took care of anything that needed attention. As such the Charger has rebuilt brakes, a new Pitman arm. a rebuilt carburetor and a re-cored radiator. The engine compartment presentation will have you proudly popping the hood at Cars and Coffee, thanks to its chrome rocker covers, factory air cleaner (proudly proclaiming “383 Four Barrel”), refinished exhaust manifolds and correct hoses/wires. The Charger runs and drives as its name suggests and as good as it looks.
