Description

Pontiac's legendary GTO hit its stride for the 1966 model year. Beefier "Coke bottle" styling with its curvaceous profile and semi-fastback roofline added more pizzazz to the Pontiac while a greater array of luxury options and a choice of potent engine options provided luxury and performance in equal measure. For many enthusiasts, the '66 and '67 GTOs are the ones to have. Here we have a 1966 GTO that checks pretty much all the boxes. It starts off with the rock-solid body that boasts beautiful black paint. As you'll note from the body tag, this high-quality respray represents a color change from the car's original Barrier Blue hue. The arrow-straight body is nicely accented with red pinstripes and Rally II wheels wearing redline BFG radial tires. The chrome and stainless steel trim is in nice condition overall apart from a few tiny dings in the chrome window accent trim. Inside, from the headliner down to the carpet it all looks impressive, even more so when you consider that it's the original interior. Yes, this originally blue car came with this red interior. The feature highlights include the console, power steering, power front disc brakes (upgraded from drums), Rally gauges, tilt wheel, AM/FM radio with reverb and the rare Sport steering wheel with a simulated wood rim. Under the hood you'll see that the original 389 has been replaced by a 400 V8 from 1968. It is fed by Tri-power carburetion and the considerable power is sent to the 3.55-geared "Safe-T-Track" rear end via an M20 4-speed manual transmission. As expected, the GTO runs and drives great, and sounds awesome doing so as the dual exhausts play that '60s muscle car soundtrack. The multi-carb setup is well-tuned and performs without a hiccup, giving a nice strong pull when you run up through the gears.
