1969 Chevrolet Chevelle

For many muscle car enthusiasts, the 1968-69 Chevelle SS has it all. The shark nose front end profile, the bulging rear quarters and the available buckets and console all give the muscle-bound vibe, while those massive valve covers under the hood back up the Super Sport’s powerful presence. Here we have a real-deal 1969 Chevelle SS 396 convertible that combines the thrilling performance of a big-block Chevelle with the added enjoyment of top-down cruising on a nice day. This sharp Chevy is well-equipped with not only that 396 (originally rated at 325 horsepower) but also with an M21 four-speed with Hurst shifter, a 12-bolt, 3.31-geared Positraction rear end, power steering and power front disc brakes, bucket seats with center console and full instruments including a tach. Repainted in its original and stunning “Garnet Red”, this SS had new GM quarter panels as well as a new trunk floor installed before the high-quality respray. Overall, it looks incredible. The new white convertible top features a glass (not plastic) rear window and new 15-inch Rally wheels fitted with BFG Radial T/As complete the classic boulevard bruiser look. Swing open a door and you can’t help but notice how nice the original Parchment interior is and how the dash and steering wheel have no cracks present. The original seats and door panels are likewise in very good shape for being over 50 years old. The carpet was replaced at some point. Though the 396 is not original to the car, it is the correct engine for this model and boasts some notable upgrades. Highlights of those include an Edelbrock “Performer RPM” intake topped with an Edelbrock 750 cfm carburetor, an MSD electronic ignition system and a “Be Cool” direct-fit aluminum radiator. The transmission and the rear end are original to the car and have no problem putting the considerable power to the pavement as you get pinned to the Strato bucket seat. The suspension was also seen to and has been fitted with new rear springs and shocks as well as “QA1” trailing arms/adjustable upper trailing arms. All in all, this SS 396 goes, handles, and stops likely even better than it did when it left the factory.
