Description

Although the third-generation Corvette (aka the “C3”) was produced from 1968 through 1982, few versions hold as much sway among Corvette enthusiasts as the early ones. This was, after all, when the C3’s performance was at its peak, and the exciting engine options included the legendary 427 big block in its various forms. Within these first few years, many C3 Corvette fans consider the 1969 model year the one to get, as the first year (’68) C3 had a few build quality and overheating bugs that were largely resolved for 1969. Here we have a very desirable 1969 Corvette 427. There are three big reasons why this Corvette is one to covet. First off, this is the L89 version of the big block, meaning it came with aluminum heads and tri-power carburetion. Second, it is a “Motion” car, meaning it was modified by that legendary ‘60s and ‘70s tuning company. Lastly, it was bought new and owned for most of its life by pro football player Mike Taylor. From 1968 through 1973 Taylor played for the Pittsburg Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Cardinals. Perhaps to celebrate his signing to the Steelers, Taylor bought himself a 1969 Corvette with the aluminum-head “L89” 427 wearing Riverside Gold paint. The ‘vette was loaded with other options as well, including leather seats, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, speed warning and AM/FM radio. He then had the car tuned by Motion Performance, which included the Motion paint accents in black so that the car wore the same gold and black color scheme as the Steelers. Being a Motion car, this Corvette also features widened wheel flares, an L88 hood, dual disc clutch and a set of slotted aluminum wheels. The car has only had a few owners, the most recent having had the car for the last 10 years. At some point a 350 V8 was installed in the car. As you can see, this car is a restoration candidate, but it comes with tons of parts (both original and NOS) and is very solid underneath. Highlights of the included parts include two L88 hoods (the original and a prototype), the date-coded 427 engine with refurbished heads, both carburetor set-ups (the original triple 2-barrels and the Motion-issued Holley 4-barrel), Edelbrock aluminum intake, TI ignition, Motion aluminum valve covers and air cleaner, the original M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed, the original Positraction rear end, and NOS side exhaust.
