Description

Introduced for 1968, the Plymouth Road Runner was essentially a base Belvidere coupe packing a 335-horsepower 383 V8 with a standard 4-speed stick (3-speed automatic was optional) along with upgraded suspension and brakes. In other words, the Road Runner was all performance, no frills and a blast to drive. On offer here is a 1969 Road Runner that has been tastefully resto-modded. Starting with a rock-solid body, this genuine (RM21) Road Runner was finished in Formal Black with the arrow straight body boasting excellent fit and finish and all new tinted glass. It's currently accented with an A-12 lift-off fiberglass hood with hood pins as well a set of Weld alloy wheels. The rear wheel wells were tubbed to accommodate wider rear tires to handle the considerable power this car puts down. Note that we've recently acquired an original 1969 Air Grabber hood complete with all the air cleaner components (that was sitting in a barn for 35 years) for this car. Swing open the door and you’ll think you’re looking at a “Day Two” time capsule car. Everything is new, from the headliner to the carpet and all the components, from the seat upholstery to the door panels, are factory correct and of top quality. The bucket seats are separated by a B&M ratchet shifter and a trio of aftermarket gauges are installed in the instrument panel for a stock appearance. A large tach is mounted old-school style on the steering column while a Sony audio system provides the tunes. Lift off the hood and nothing less than a beefed-up 440 hits your eyes. Putting out over 500 horsepower, the 440 features an MSD ignition, a Holley 850 carb (with electric pump), headers and a dual exhaust system with X pipe and exhaust dumps. All that grunt goes through a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission (with reverse manual valve body) to a Dana 60 with 4:10 Sure Grip. Note that this was originally a 4-speed car and that all those components are available for sale separately if the buyer is interested. Power steering and power front disc brakes round out the hardware and add to the driving enjoyment. Looking sinister in its awesome black color scheme and backing the looks up with some serious firepower under the hood, this 1969 Road Runner is a thriller.
