Description

Completely redesigned for 1969, the Pontiac Grand Prix took a trip further uptown. In addition to the expected menu of powerful powerplants, the “GP” traded its former curvy and somewhat bloated styling for a sharply chiseled and more upscale look with its massive, vertical chrome grille, long hood, formal roofline and short rear deck. With its two trim levels named after 1930s Duesenberg models -- those being the plush Model J and even fancier Model SJ -- Pontiacs luxury performance coupe fired on all cylinders. Presented here is an incredibly example of the 1969 Grand Prix. The recipient of a high-quality restoration, this pristine Poncho boasts arrow-straight and rock-solid original underside and body panels, with the latter wearing jet black paint that looks six inches deep. The vinyl top and various chrome trim (including the bumpers) looks fantastic as well. A hood-mounted tach and a set of 18-inch wheels with gloss black centers wrapped with Goodyear performance tires add the perfect punctuation mark to this otherwise understated classic. A driver-centric cockpit with its wrap-around dash and console highlights the high style of the interior. Pearl white upholstery (Parchment in Pontiac lingo) is a perfect complement to the black exterior and interior components. Luxury features include A/C as well as power windows and door locks. The original AM radio still sits in the dash while a factory 8-track player (seen in the trunk photo) is waiting to play the Age of Aquarius. Overall, the interior is in excellent condition. Under that Pontiac’s proud hood (touted as the longest hood in 1969 in Pontiac’s print ads of the time) sits a potent 400 cubic-inch V8 breathing through a four-barrel carburetor and exhaling through dual exhausts. Of course the car is equipped with automatic transmission, power steering and power front disc brakes and overall, the spirited Grand Prix drives great.
