Description

For many muscle car enthusiasts, the 1970 Chevelle SS checks all the boxes. The subtly bulging fenders and hood, semi-fastback roofline and simple but handsome grille and taillights just look so right. At the top of the mountain was the SS 454 which could be had in LS5 (360 hp) and legendary LS6 (450 hp) form. Here we have a 1970 Chevelle SS 454. Although we can’t confirm it without proper documentation, we believe this is a real LS6 car given the LS6 engine block and original LS6-specific components such as the 6,500-RPM redline tach, the fuel lines and the date-code-correct, "CRW"-code 4.10 Positraction rear end. The mighty mill has a few high-performance upgrades, such as roller rocker arms, aluminum heads and MSD ignition. As expected, this engine cranks out a massive amount of power. It all runs through a Muncie M22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed gearbox and out to that 12-bolt Posi rear end. The body and underside of this Chevelle are in very nice condition and the various chrome and stainless-steel trim looks fantastic as does the high-quality respray done in Forest green. The hood sports the factory-optional cowl-induction setup. A set of 15-inch "Magnum 500" style wheels wearing brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/As adds the finishing touch to this head-turning boulevard bruiser. Note that the trunk is scheduled to be fully detailed and that the original 14-inch SS wheels wearing Kumho radials (pictured) go with the car. Inside, the interior looks great and features the optional bucket seats and center console along with factory rally gauges and AM radio. From the headliner down to the carpet it all looks great apart from a small hole and some wrinkling of the headliner. Under that Cowl Induction hood there’s the aforementioned 454 that runs great and demands respect as it has no problem spinning the rear tires at will. A free-flowing dual exhaust system (with factory chrome tips) provides a proper rocking soundtrack. Of course there are power steering and power front disc brakes. In addition to the thrilling performance provided by that powerhouse, the Chevelle shifts smoothly and handles and brakes well. To say this car is a blast to drive would be putting it lightly.
