1970 Dodge Challenger

We get some incredibly nice cars here at Carroll Street. Of those, some have even attained the Trifecta. Our informal designation means it is: 1) a very desirable model/specification car, 2) a pristine original or the recipient of a high-end restoration, and 3) a car which has supporting documentation. On offer here is one of those rare, “Trifecta” cars. For many muscle car enthusiasts, one of the holy grail picks is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, especially if it comes packing a 4-speed with the factory “Pistol Grip” shifter. This incredible restoration is as fresh as it could be as only 5 (five) miles have been put on the car since that impressive effort. An original broadcast sheet, fender tag (decoder report and plenty of restoration receipts accompany the car. As the beautiful code EB7 Dark Blue metallic paint, black-accented scooped hood and black “Bumble Bee” tail stripe catch your eye, you can’t help but notice how arrow-straight the rock-solid body is (note that the radiator support, fender aprons and trunk are all original). This sharp E body is nicely accented with factory Rallye wheels (original 14-inch steelies with dog dish hub caps also included) that wear period correct Goodyear Polyglas GT white letter tires as well as a “Go Wing” rear spoiler. Underneath it’s just as nice as the top. Indeed, this is what we call a “lasagna car” because we would gladly eat lasagna off this Challenger’s super clean underside. Inside, the dash, door panels and upholstery look showroom fresh. And this being an R/T means that full instrumentation (also fully restored) is included while the Pistol Grip shifter sprouting from the floor sans console makes a strong “this car is a blast” performance statement. Options include the “Rim-Blow” steering wheel with its aluminum spokes and an AM/FM radio. Unfasten the factory hood pins, raise the hood and you’ll see an engine compartment that is as clean and correct as the rest of this Challenger. It’s a numbers-matching powertrain consisting of the high-performance 383 V8 (335 hp) matched to that 4-speed that sends the power to the rear wheels via a 3.91-geared “Sure Grip” rear end. Originally a manual drum brake car, this Challenger R/T was upgraded to power front discs during the restoration but still retains its manual steering. This beautiful bruiser runs as good as it looks, too. Step into it as you run through the gears and as you’re pushed back in the seat you’re treated to the rocking soundtrack that only a high-performance Mopar V8 running through its factory dual exhaust can deliver. Handling and braking are respectable as well, thanks to the car’s Hemi Suspension upgrade that was included with the High Performance Axle Package (featuring that 3.91 Sure Grip rear end) and the aforementioned front disc upgrade.
