Representing the pinnacle of Oldsmobile’s 442, the 1970 model year brought with it the fitment of a standard 455 V8. As if that weren’t enough, you could select the optional W-30 package, which beefed up that already potent 455 with a hotter cam, a “Cold Air” hood with dual scoops, an aluminum intake manifold, a limited slip differential, lightweight red plastic front inner fenders and wide body-side and hood stripes. We are proud to offer this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 convertible that was treated to an incredible, no-expense-spared, frame-off restoration during 2006-2008. The 442 has had only 3 owners since new, and a thick file of restoration receipts as well as various other documentation and information accompanies the car. Although not an original W-30 car, during the restoration the 442 was upgraded with W-30 components, the transmission was changed from an automatic to a 4-speed manual and the color was changed from Copper to Orange (actually called Rally Red in Olds-speak). The car has seen minimal use since and has always been properly stored and maintained to the point that it looks like a recent restoration. Walk around the car and you can't help but be impressed by the high-quality of the arrow-straight body and incredible paint that looks like you could dip your hand in it. Of course the big hood scoops, the black W-30 hood/bodyside stripes, the brilliant chrome and stainless steel trim and the car's chrome Super Stock I wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Radial T/As add to the strong head-turning factor this 442 possesses. And the underside is so clean that it earns our "Lasagna Car" status, meaning we would gladly eat our Sunday pasta off of it. Swing open the door and you'd swear you're back in 1970 given the impressive state of the interior from the top to the carpet. Notably, this 442 is loaded with many desirable options such as AM/FM stereo with the rare 8-track deck, Rally gauges with the "Tic-Toc-Tach" , bucket seats with console, tilt steering wheel, sport steering wheel, power windows, power driver’s seat, and 15” Rally wheels. Out on the road, this burly muscle car pulls hard and handles surprisingly well thanks to that 455 powerhouse, power steering, power front disc brakes and the 442’s standard front/rear stabilizer bars and firmer suspension calibrations. Back then, the 442 was regarded as the best-handling muscle car, and having driven so many of them, we’d have to agree. Of course, the beefy 455 has no problem putting you back into the seat when you lean on it while the “trumpet” tipped exhaust provides the proper muscle car soundtrack whether burbling down the boulevard or rocketing up a freeway on-ramp.
