Representing the pinnacle of Oldsmobile’s 442, the 1970 model year brought with it the fitment of a standard 455 V8. As if that weren’t enough, performance fans could check off the option for the W-30 package, which beefed up that already muscle-bound 455 with hotter cam, a “Cold Air” hood with dual scoops, an aluminum intake manifold, a 3.42-geared limited slip differential, lightweight red plastic front inner fenders and wide body-side and hood stripes. The 455 W-30 was underrated at hilariously low 370 hp, though, given the car’s ripping performance. We are proud to be offering this incredible 1970 442 W-30 that was recently treated to a very high-quality, frame-off restoration. This is a real W-30 boasting a matching-numbers powertrain and all its original body panels. That body is gorgeous with its special-order paint (as indicated by the “- -“ on the body tag). The “Agean Aqua” color looks fantastic with the white W-30 stripes and chrome, 15-inch Old’s “SS1” wheels fitted with BF Goodrich T/As. The chrome and stainless-steel trim are brilliant as well and the underside is so clean that we’d eat lasagna off of it. Swing open the door, settle in behind the optional “Custom Sport” four-spoke wheel and you’ll swear you’ve just stepped into a time machine, set it to 1970 and visited your town’s Oldsmobile dealer to check out the hottest car in their showroom. The 442 features the optional “Rally Pac” instrumentation while the dash, door panels and upholstery are all impressively crisp and clean. The Hurst 4-speed sprouts out of the carpet, flanked by those plush bucket seats while woodgrain accents add a bit of luxury, supporting the 442’s standing as an upscale muscle car. Under the scooped hood is the rebuilt, matching-numbers 455 that looks as factory fresh as the rest of the car. It sends the power through a close-ratio four-speed and on to the “Anti-Spin” rear end (now fitted with a 3.90 gear) proudly wearing the optional W27 aluminum axle carrier/cover. This muscle car also handles surprisingly well, thanks to its power steering and the 442’s standard front/rear stabilizer bars and firmer suspension calibrations. All in all, this refined beast runs and drives as if you continued that time travel trip with a thrilling test ride. A build sheet is included in the car’s documents.
