Produced from 1971 through 1973, the “big body” Mustangs offered style in spades along with luxury and performance and a choice of three body styles – coupe, Sports roof (fastback) and convertible. The Mach 1 version with its scooped hood, "competition" suspension, cool graphics and roster of potent V8s was a favorite among driving enthusiasts. Here we have a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 that checks a lot of boxes. It appears to be a nicely maintained, mostly original example that's had one high-quality repaint some time ago. It’s packing a 351 4-barrel V8 rather than the more typically seen 2-barrel 302 or 2-barrel 351 V8s. It also has a 4-speed manual transmission rather the much more common automatic. And we're sure you'll agree that is a looker. This Mustang's body is straight and rock-solid and the correct respray in Dark Green looks sharp, properly accented with the Argent "Mach 1" graphics and chrome Magnum 500 wheels. The underside is impressively solid as well, as seen in the photos. The original interior is in very good shape and features the optional upgrade package with its knit vinyl upholstery and molded door panels with woodgrain accents on the doors and dash. The option highlights include the flip-fold rear seat, dual color-keyed racing mirrors, AM radio, tinted glass and those Magnum 500 style wheels (wearing new BF Goodrich TA raised white lettered tires). It also comes with a Marti Report and owner history. Under the scooped hood is the original, high-performance "M" code 351 4-barrel V8. This mill sported 10.7:1 compression and, at 285 horsepower, 45 more hp than the lower-compression 351 2-barrel. It sends the power through the original 4-speed manual gearbox and out to the 3.25-geared Traction-Lok rear end. Take this sleek 'stang for a spin and you'll note it starts and runs smoothly and eagerly. Lean into it as you run up through the gears and there’s plenty of performance on tap here. Braking and handling performance are likewise on point. Whether you’re running through your favorite deserted back roads, taking the kids for an ice cream or just kicking back at a Cars and Coffee, this handsome Mustang Mach 1 promises a lot of bang for the buck.
