Description

Restomods are hugely popular for good reason. And it's easy to see why. Combining the cool styling of the good old days with modern performance and comfort features, a restomod literally is the best of both worlds. Here we have 1972 Nova restomod that was done to the highest standard. This triple black Nova packs performance that even a ’69 SS 396 couldn’t match. Everything from the body to the interior and of course the incredible powertrain is better than what this car had when it rolled off the line in 1972. Starting out with a rock-solid, all-original sheet metal body, the Nova was stripped to bare metal and given a high-quality respray in jet black. A black vinyl top accents the gleaming paint, while a cowl induction-style hood and a quartet of five-spoke alloy wheels (wearing high-performance Continental tires) finish it off. Underneath it’s so clean that you could yes, eat lasagna off of the floor pans and while doing so, you’ll also notice the Nova’s structure has been beefed up with sub-frame connectors as well as a set of adjustable traction bars. Inside, the interior is all new and features perforated vinyl upholstery with new seat foams and as expected a mint headliner, dash pad, door panels and carpeting. A set of six white-faced gauges now fills the dash where before just a speedometer and gas gauge resided. It is so neatly and tastefully done it looks like it came from the factory that way. A three-spoke Corvette-style steering wheel sits on a tilt-adjustable column. Note that a Grant GT four-spoke, padded-rim steering wheel goes with the car as well. Vintage A/C and heat provides a comfortable interior regardless of the outside weather. Under the cowl hood sits no less than 427 cubic inches of brawny Chevy big block. Yes, this is a real 1960’s 427 mill, not a 454. Plenty of power is made thanks to a Holley double-pumper sitting atop a Summit aluminum intake and a set of ceramic-coated Hooker headers sending their exhaust out a dual system with a cross-over. The engine compartment is as sanitary as the rest of the car, with a billet accessories mount and a smoothed firewall adding to the neat as a pin appearance. Sending all that power to the 12-bolt Positraction rear end and on to the 295mm wide, 20-inch diameter rear tires is a Tremec five-speed gearbox shifted via an old-school-style cue ball-topped Hurst shifter. The braking system was also seriously upgraded to handle all that go power with a full Wilwood four-wheel disc setup that also features drilled and slotted rotors. This is one of those “must see to believe” cars and though it’s gorgeous, looking at it is not nearly as much fun as grabbing gears as the big block starts to breathe.
