Description

For many enthusiasts, the 1972 GTO was the last of the “real” GTOs. It was the last year of the sharp 1970-1972 body style and had the expected early ‘70s GTO styling cues of a smoothly integrated and color keyed front bumper, a scooped hood an available rear decklid spoiler. We just acquired this gorgeous 1972 GTO coupe and it checks all the boxes: condition, color combination, powertrain and desired options. Starting with the body, this proud Pontiac has a clean and rock-solid underside and arrow straight body panels with nice even gaps and fitment. The car was resprayed in the original and beautiful color of Lucerne blue, which is nicely complimented by a set of chrome “Magnum 500” style wheels fitted with brand new BFG Radial T/As. Inside, the crisp and clean white upholstery is in fine condition, and the factory buckets and console provide the right muscle car vibe. Air conditioning keeps things cool on hot summer days. A sporty Grant 3-spoke steering wheel feels great in the hands while a full complement of auxiliary gauges keeps tabs on the powerhouse under the broad hood. Rather than the detuned and lower compression (due to increasingly tough emissions standards) 1972 400 V8 that the car originally came with, this GTO boasts a potent 400 from 1970 that has been rebuilt and likely makes even more than the original 350 hp. Note that the original 400's block, heads and intake go with the car. A smooth shifting 4-speed with a Hurst shifter sends the considerable power to the rear wheels. Simply put, this GTO runs as fantastic as it looks. A Lucerne blue and white 1972 GTO with a strong 400, a 4-speed and A/C. It doesn’t get much better than this.
