The year 1979 marked the 10th anniversary of Pontiac's Trans Am. To celebrate, a special edition of the car was offered, loaded up with a head-turning silver/charcoal two-tone paint scheme, a larger hood bird, "Turbo Cast" alloy wheels and mirrored T-Tops. Out of a total Trans Am production of 117,108 units for 1979, only 7,500 of the cars were 10th Anniversary editions. Here we have on of those rare birds on offer. A nice driver-quality low-mileage example that can be fully enjoyed as is for short money or brought to the next level if so desired. This car has had just two owners over the last 40 years and the odometer shows just over 54,000 miles. The straight and rock-solid body looks to have its original finish still, including the various "10th Anniversary" graphics. That finish ranges from sun weathered in some places to gleaming in most others. Note that the right side rocker panel appears to have been replaced at some point, but all the other body panels as well as the floors and trunk are original. The trunk still contains the original jack, space-saver tire and inflation canister. Inside, the unique interior features include real leather upholstery, plusher carpeting, monogrammed Firebirds on the doors and rear seat, red instrument panel lighting and the engine-turned finish on the console in addition to the dash. Other highlights include power windows and door locks as well as air conditioning and the factory AM/FM/8-track stereo system. Under the hood is the factory-issued 403 4-barrel V8 that sends the power through an automatic transmission and on to the 2.73-geared limited-slip rear end. A Magnaflow dual exhaust system sounds awesome and exits via the factory side-splitter tips. Out on the road, the Trans Am moves out smoothly and as the 10th Anny cars came equipped with the normally optional WS6 handling package (which features thicker anti-sway bars and four-wheel disc brakes), the car handles very well. In fact, Car and Driver rated the 1979 Trans Am with the WS6 package as the best-handling American car for that year. Yes, that includes the Corvette. Recent service including complete new front suspension components with KYB shocks, center link, inner and outer tie rods, Pitman arm, sway bar links, etc. As such the 'bird runs and drives great.
