Description

THIS CAR CAN BE VIEWED AT OWLS HEAD AUTO AUCTION: AUG. 19,20,21 As much an icon on college campuses of the ‘80s and ‘90s as its Beetle forebear was in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the Volkswagen Rabbit convertible (later just called the Cabriolet) was great on gas and fun to blast around in thanks to its sprightly performance, agile handling and open-air ability. Here we have a 1982 Rabbit drop top that’s been owned and well-maintained by the same family since it was new. It’s all original except for a new top and has only traveled a total of around 87,000 miles since it left the factory in Germany. Looking sharp in its factory Surinam metallic with a beige vinyl top, the rock-solid Rabbit still sits on its original wheels and with only a few minor imperfections presents very well for a 40-year-old car. The underside and trunk are impressively solid as well. The interior is all original and in amazing condition, with no tears or splits on the dash or seats. The door panels and carpet are likewise in impressive condition and testament to the excellent care the car has had since it was new. Underway, the 1.7-liter inline four is surprisingly peppy thanks to the car’s light weight and the 5-speed stick’s well-spaced gear ratios. These Rabbits were also known for their lively handling and agile feel on the road. And with 1980s cars coming on strong in the collector car market (and at events such as “Radwood”), a Rabbit convertible in nice condition represents an enjoyable and affordable way into the hobby. For more information or to schedule time to see this fun-loving icon of the ‘80s and ‘90s just give us a call at 603-627-5595. Financing is offered through our approved lender, interesting trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
