Description

In 1968, Oldsmobile joined forces with Hurst (you know, the shifter guys) to produce one of the most potent muscle cars of the era. While Oldsmobile's own 442 was limited (as were all other GM midsize muscle cars) that year to a 400 cubic-inch limit, the 1968 "Hurst/Olds" got around that mandate and stuffed a 455-cuber in the Cutlass' body. That powerhouse was matched to a beefed-up TH400 automatic transmission featuring a Hurst ratchet shifter that allowed manual-style gear changes. A cool Silver and Black paint scheme made the car looks as good as it went. The two companies would produce other Hurst/Olds cars off-and-on through the '70s. Then they did nothing until 1983. That year, you'd find Oldsmobile and Hurst joining forces again to produce the 1983 15th Anniversary Hurst/Olds. Highlights include a sharp Black/Silver/Red color scheme, a bump in the hood to suggest power, and chrome Super Stock rally wheels. Under the hood was a high-output 307 V8 with 180 hp, about 30 more than a standard 307 made. A four-speed automatic sent the power to the rear wheels. The highlight was found in the center console stuffed with Hurst's "Lightning Rods" gear shifters. Offering a choice of either automatic or manual operation, this feature provided a stick for each gear change should you opt for the manual route. Pull them all back then bump each one forward to shift up to the next gear. This Hurst/Olds may not challenge a '68 or '69 in a drag race, but the Lightning Rods' fun factor more than makes up for it. Here we have one of these rare Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary cars. One of just 3,001 produced, this example is in fine condition and is turn-key ready to thrill its next owner. Sporting its original rock-solid body panels and paint, this H/O looks great and will have no problem turning heads at a Cars and Coffee event. The underside is likewise in impressive condition. Inside, it's obvious that the car led a pampered life, as everything in the original interior is in nice condition, including the dash, door panels, seats and carpeting. These cars typically came loaded, and this one is as well with A/C, power windows/locks, tilt wheel, cruise control and an AM/FM stereo radio, which is still in the dash. Out on the road, this Hurst/Olds runs and drives fantastic, and sounds good doing so. It also boasts a clean Carfax. Please call Carroll Street Auto at (603) 627-5595 to schedule time to view this '80s classic close up. Financing is offered through our approved lender, trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
